10 Skincare Resolutions for the New Year

Skincare-Resolutions-2023The new year is right around the corner, so what better time than NOW to set some skincare resolutions. Taking care of your skin is important for your overall health and wellbeing. We’ve listed a few skincare habits to help you start the new year right. Keep reading to learn what they are:

1. Get more sleep

Getting enough sleep is important to your health, as we all know, but it’s also extremely important to keep your skin healthy. When you don’t get enough sleep, it shows. From dark circles and puffy eyes to dull skin and breakouts – these are tell-tale signs that you may not be getting enough sleep. Aim for 7-8 hours a night, if possible.

2. Stay hydrated

Another easy skincare resolution is to drink more water. Staying hydrated helps get rid of toxins in your body, while also keeping your skin from becoming dry and dull. We recommend trying to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to help keep your skin healthy and glowing.

3. Eat more healthy foods and fats

  • Eating foods rich in Antioxidants, like fruits and vegetables, can help protect skin cells from damage and aging and may improve skin texture and appearance.
  • Choosing to eat healthy fats, like salmon, tuna, nuts, olive oil) will help keep your skin supple and hydrated.
  • Additionally, cutting back on your sugar intake can help reduce breakouts and inflammation.

4. Wear sunscreen daily

If there is one skincare resolution you should definitely make, its to make sure you wear sunscreen every day if you plan on spending time outside – even in the winter. Protecting your skin from the sun’s dangerous UV rays will help prevent premature aging as well as potential skin cancers. Choose a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.

5. Commit to a good skincare routine

Keeping up with a regular skincare routine is important to help keep your skin balanced and healthy. Make sure you use a good facial cleanser and exfoliate your skin regularly. Last, but not least, don’t forget to moisturize your skin daily!

6. Wash your makeup off nightly

If you wear makeup, washing off your makeup can seem like such a chore after a long day. However, if you choose to sleep in your makeup, you’re asking for breakouts and clogged pores. Take a few minutes every night to wash your face.

7. Visit your esthetician and dermatologist regularly

We recommend that having regular facials with an esthetician will help improve your overall complexion and clear clogged pores. Additionally, you should visit your dermatologist annually for a skin check to spot potential skin cancer and other skin concerns. This is especially advised if skin cancer runs in your family.

8. Keep stress at bay

If you didn’t know already, stress can affect your skin in many ways – from dullness to breakouts. Try your best this year to avoid stress by practicing self care and other stress-relieving activities in order to keep your skin happy and healthy.

9. Limit alcohol intake and avoid smoking

Drinking too much alcohol can dehydrate your skin causing it to look dull and unhealthy, so we suggest limiting your alcohol intake. Smoking, too, should be avoided, not only because it can lead to premature aging, it is also seriously bad for your overall health.

10. Be happy

Remember that staying positive and being grateful has some amazing benefits for both your skin and your wellbeing!
